LEGO Star Wars designer reveals Boba Fett statue’s origin story

The designer behind this summer’s brand new LEGO Star Wars 75455 Boba Fett has revealed the buildable statue’s origin story.

A model widely praised among the LEGO Star Wars community since its official unveiling yesterday, 75455 Boba Fett follows in the footsteps of 76334 Iron Man Mark 3 Collectors’ Edition in concept, execution… and, as it turns out, origin. Just as the Marvel set was a ‘passion project’ for designer Aaron Newman, so too was the bounty hunter for designer Boone Langston.

The former LEGO MASTERS contestant revealed on Instagram that he spearheaded the design of 75455 Boba Fett in early 2024, and while he wasn’t solely responsible for bringing it to shelves, the latest LEGO Star Wars buildable character at least started life as a ‘passion project’.

“This one was a labour of love,” Boone said. “Starting out as a passion project of mine two and a half years ago, I have had the great privilege to carry the responsibility of model design through to the end. The incredible Julian Curiëre served as a great co-designer during the model maturing phase of this product, especially carrying and improving the development of the model during times when I was called to other wonderful future LEGO projects.

“I’ll tell the longer version of the story (hint: it starts when I was 11 years old) and I’ll have plenty more people to thank when LEGO Star Wars 75455 Boba Fett launches on August 1, but for now, I’ll patiently enjoy looking forward to seeing it on shelves one month from today!”

Fellow LEGO Star Wars designer Julian added: “It was an amazing experience, and I'm so happy with what we created together. I couldn't be happier with the final result!”

The reception to the 1,544-piece set has been roundly positive so far, at least where the build itself is concerned. Some fans have taken the included Return of the Jedi Boba Fett minifigure to task over the tiniest details, but there does seem to be a consensus among the community that the majority of the set is a winner – which isn’t always the case for buildable characters.

75455 Boba Fett debuts on August 1 for £149.99 / $169.99 / €169.99 and is available to pre-order in some territories now.
