LEGO Star Wars minifigure discourse is exhausting

LEGO Star Wars fans can be a picky lot for sure, but are they right to be frustrated with an updated minifigure included with the upcoming 75455 Boba Fett?

Today’s official reveal of 75455 Boba Fett has already caused ripples amongst the wider LEGO Star Wars fan community, specifically around some initial confusion over the colour of the set’s updated Boba Fett minifigure. Such a small detail might seem insignificant to some, but to others it’s merely the latest chapter in an ongoing saga with the theme over the last two decades.

In fact, it’s something our very own Matthew has commented on in his latest video here, with his original Boba Fett minifigure having frustrated him as a youngling, leading to some amateur DIY with a hacksaw to remedy the bounty hunter’s appearance.

So, what’s got the hackles of LEGO Star Wars fans up this time around? Well, the LEGO Group itself issued a statement alongside the press release for 75455 Boba Fett, to seemingly head off any confusion ahead of time regarding the colour of the Boba Fett minifigure’s arms.

They were one specific hue in lifestyle images and another in digital renders, with the correct version being the minifigure that has light grey arms, matching the look of its torso and legs, as well as the character’s appearance in Return of the Jedi.

However, even that explanation hasn’t been enough to placate some LEGO Star Wars fans, who have already voiced their displeasure at other apparent errors and inconsistencies with the latest Boba Fett minifigure.

The arms aren’t what ruined it,” noted rodrign007 on YouTube, “his belt is printed wrong because they reused the ESB torso print. His belt is supposed to have pouches through the entire thing, but there’s a gap in the middle. Just look at the ROTJ Boba Fett from 2017 Skiff.”

“Gauntlets in the render are maroon,” added Daniel-fk8ou, “but green in the product images. I think it's an error. For some reason product images Boba is using ESB arms.

That initial discussion has led to a wider debate amongst LEGO Star Wars fans about this being merely the latest in a series of perceived inaccuracies from the long-running theme over the years, a subject also touched upon in the latest Brick Fanatics video.

I wonder if it's an inside joke at LEGO?” said DigitalVanquish on Reddit. “They could very easily print him right. They went out of their way to do a slightly different arm print on the Mandalorian minifig for the Mando vs Groglet movie. If they lost their copy of ROTJ, I can lend them mine.

“I get making fun of people for complaining about a minifigure meant for kids,” stated SupremeLeaderMatt, “but the fact is they’ve gotten it right before in a cheap set meant for kids. Why do we defend the billion-dollar company when they lazily reuse the torso and copy paste the design of the legs from a version of Boba that’s inaccurate to the version represented in the set meant for adults (which costs $170)?”

For now, it's still up in the air as to whether or not the updated Boba Fett minifigure will be an improvement over previous versions, but you'll be able to check it our for yourself when 75455 Boba Fett launches on August 1, 2026. The LEGO Star Wars set is available to pre-order in the UK and Europe right now priced at £149.99 / €169.99 in the UK and soon in the US for $169.99.
