There’s already a LEGO Balrog alternate build that fixes main criticism
There’s already a fix for lots of people’s number one criticism of LEGO Icons 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook.
Thanks to a builder on Rebrickable, rebelnili, you can now build a version of 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook that leans into brick-built rocks, removing a lot of the gaps that fans didn’t like about the official build. Using around 75% of the pieces in the set and around 1,493 additional BrickLink pieces, the Balrog stands on a wide slab of rock, with a jutting section for Gandalf to face him on. The flames are concentrated in a brick-built arch behind him, closer to the version of the Bridge of Khazad-dûm we see in the movies.

The Balrof itself has also gone through some changes, changed to include more dark blueish grey and black pieces as opposed to light blueish grey. There are also flames wrapping down the wings and the back to give the effect of a glowing ribcage.
The Rebrickable mod fixes a lot of the criticisms that fans had of the LEGO The Lord of the Rings nook nook, with people commenting on the ‘sparse background’ and ‘how empty’ it looks, even when fully built. Although it’ll cost you a little extra than just the set to expand on the build, it’s an interesting alternate version of one of the most iconic scenes from the franchise.
Buying the €14.50 Rebrickable instructions will also give you the parts list for the extra pieces on BrickLink, coming to around €115 (£96). LEGO Icons 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook is available to buy now for £109.99 / $129.99 / €119.99.
