Could Back to Hogwarts be LEGO Harry Potter’s May the 4th?

The newly announced Back to Hogwarts sounds like it could be a new annual event for LEGO Harry Potter, similar to Star Wars’ May the 4th.

Featuring new sets, free gifts and discounts as detailed in our full report, Back to Hogwarts runs from September 1 to 10 to celebrate all things LEGO Harry Potter and a new year at Hogwarts.

The frequently asked questions section on the event’s landing page on LEGO.com acknowledges that this event takes place every year outside of the LEGO Group’s retail bubble, much like May the 4th for Star Wars. However, the Star Wars fan event has been embraced by the LEGO Group and Disney over the past decade.

May the 4th is celebrated every year on LEGO.com with a new massive LEGO Star Wars model, discounts and multiple gifts-with-purchase. In 2023, this included 75355 X-wing Starfighter as well as 40591 Death Star II and it’s since been officially confirmed to return in 2024.

The official description for the LEGO Group’s Back to Hogwarts offerings sounds familiar but focused on Harry Potter instead of Star WarsLEGO Harry Potter has seen a huge set added to it each year since 2020 too, so continuing this tradition wouldn’t be out of the question for the LEGO Group.

This could mean that we have a second annual licensed theme event to look forward to on LEGO.com now with Back to Hogwarts and May the 4th. However, it’s unfortunately too early to tell whether or not Back to Hogwarts will be celebrated every year online and in physical stores, or whether this is a one-off celebration.

For now, we’ll have to wait to see whether or the event will return in 2024 and look forward to the first Back to Hogwarts LEGO Harry Potter event later this week. You can find out more by clicking here and we’ll continue to report any new information about the event as we receive it. Don’t forget that 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition is launching at the start of September too.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
