The six biggest LEGO mechs ever, from Monkie Kid to Fortnite
Another huge LEGO mech is stomping onto shelves thanks to Fortnite later this year, but it’s not quite the biggest LEGO mech ever released.
One of the four upcoming LEGO Fortnite 2025 sets is easily one of the biggest LEGO mechs ever designed. 77078 Mecha Team Leader makes use of new XL joints for giant and stable limbs, proving the versatility of the new pieces.
It’s far from the biggest LEGO mech ever designed, though, and here’s what tops the list in reverse order ascending. Notably, NINJAGO is nowhere to be seen for some time in such a list, with its biggest mech so far being 71834 Zane’s Ultra Combiner Mech at 1,187 pieces. Whether this will change with the 15th anniversary next year is unknown at the time of writing.
6 – 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech
Price: £114.99 / $129.99 / €129.99 Pieces: 1,333 Release date: August 1, 2025

LEGO DREAMZzz sits at the bottom of the list with the huge 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech at 1,333 pieces. It uses transparent elements more than any other LEGO mech, representing Z-Blob’s body wearing the mech as a suit of armour. It’s a suitably creative entry from LEGO DREAMZzz with some enticing printed pieces.
5 – 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech
Price: £114.99 / $149.99 / €129.99 Pieces: 1,629 (including side builds) Release date: May 16, 2020

The initial LEGO Monkie Kid mech is next up, and despite featuring some sizable side builds, the set itself still has 1,629 pieces, most of which undoubtedly go towards the towering mech. By including a building on the side, it goes to show just how tall the mech is, making use of some drum-lacquered gold elements for a suitably regal colour scheme.
4 – 80045 Monkey King Ultra Mech
Price: £119.99 / $159.99 / €139.99 Pieces: 1,705 Release date: January 1, 2023

The biggest LEGO Monkie Kid mech, 80045 Monkey King Ultra Mech, sits at 1,705 pieces and is still available now. The angular shaping and increased usage of gold parts pair perfectly with the giant, but simplistic staff to create one of the most visually-impressive LEGO mechs ever designed.
3 – 21311 Voltron
Price: £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99 Pieces: 2,321 Release date: August 1, 2018

The retired LEGO Ideas 21311 Voltron breaks 2,000 pieces with the five iconic robot lions that combine into the legendary defender. It bears some striking similarities to Fortnite’s mech with a colourful, combined design and a giant sword.
2 – 77078 Mecha Team Leader
Price: £209.99 / $249.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 2,503 Release date: August 1, 2025

The 2,503-piece 77078 Mecha Team Leader is available to pre-order now for £209.99 / $249.99 / €229.99. The recognisable Fortnite mech references several characters from the game with an appearance that contrasts cartoon-style characters with a serious and angular design.
1 – 76210 Hulkbuster
Price: £474.99 / $549.99 / €549.99 Pieces: 4,049 Release date: November 4, 2022

LEGO Marvel 76210 Hulkbuster has now retired after a series of sales. While it drew mixed reactions during its lifespan, it’s by far the biggest LEGO ever designed, thanks to the scale. While the Hulkbuster isn’t nearly as big as Voltron and Mecha Team Leader in-fiction, it’s designed to be at the same scale as a buildable Iron Man figure, which can sit inside the mech instead of a minifigure. This decision led to a piece count of 4,049 elements.
