Time is running out to design a future, nostalgic LEGO set

Your window to design a future LEGO Ideas set remixing a nostalgic model is closing, as a recent challenge is moving to the next stage soon.

LEGO Ideas challenges asking fans to help design a future set or gift-with-purchase have been common recently, but few have been quite as opportunistic as the A Twist of Nostalgia challenge. The brief is to remix a previously-released LEGO set with a modern twist. Whether that be reimagining the model as if it were launched today or mixing it with another theme is up to you.

The entries so far have been incredibly creative, and over 500 submissions are now in the running to become a future gift-with-purchase. There are four days left to submit your design, and we’d recommend allowing time for resubmission in case any changes need to be made.

A fan vote featuring up to 15 models will start on May 9 with one grand prize winner and two runners-up.

The winner of this challenge will not only have the opportunity to see their set become a future gift-with-purchase, but they’ll take home a massive prize package too. Both runners-up will take home a smaller prize package.

Older LEGO sets have been re-released as gifts-with-purchase before from LEGO Castle, BIONICLE and Classic Space, but this challenge presents an opportunity to represent more modern themes in the current portfolio. The winner of this challenge will be announced on May 28. Click here to head to the challenge page and submit your entry while you can.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
