Biggest LEGO modular building yet rumoured for 2024

More details are starting to emerge on next year’s rumoured LEGO modular building, suggesting it will be the series’ biggest set to date.

Precious little is known about the 2024 modular building so far, beyond the presumption that it’s happening (which we can reasonably assume thanks to both a listing at price comparison site Brickmerge, and the fact that the subtheme has been going strong since 2007 with no signs of slowing down). Initial details on next year’s addition to the long-running line-up are now slowly coming to the fore, teasing a direct replacement for the retiring 10255 Assembly Square.

That 10th-anniversary set has been on shelves since 2017, and until now has been the biggest model in the Modular Buildings Collection to date – weighing in at 4,002 pieces and stretching over a 48×32-stud footprint (16 studs wider than traditional buildings). Instagram user brick_clicker now reports that 2024’s modular building, numbered 10326, will include 4,014 elements – surpassing even 10255 Assembly Square.

The older set’s impending retirement at the end of 2023 suddenly makes a lot more sense, particularly as the price tag for 10326 is said to match 10255 Assembly Square’s post-inflation RRP at £259.99 / $299.99. Brick_clicker has yet to share any more information about the 2024 set, beyond a predictable release date of January 1, but that price tag and piece count opens the doors to more possibilities than ever before.

For example, the LEGO Group could be using the additional parts to expand the width of the next modular building, following the path taken by 10255 Assembly Square (or even reaching the enormous 64×32 footprint of this summer’s 71799 NINJAGO City Markets). Or it might be looking upwards, delivering the tallest modular building yet (perhaps rivalling 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens’ towering height).

A wider building would better serve a hospital, school or museum – all of which we’re yet to see in the Modular Buildings Collection – while an apartment building or office block (perhaps with shops on the ground floor) would benefit from increased height. The potential for the next modular building is pretty much limitless regardless of whether these rumours are true or not, but the thought of such a huge part count definitely gets you thinking…

Take these reports with a grain of salt until the LEGO Group officially unveils next year’s modular building. For now, make sure to prioritise 10255 Assembly Square, 10270 Bookshop and 10278 Police Station before they leave shelves in 2023.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
