The biggest LEGO Store in the world is coming to Australia in 2023

The biggest LEGO Store in the world is set to open its doors in Australia later this year, offering even more space than the flagship Leicester Square store in London.

While the LEGO Store in Leicester Square – currently the world’s biggest – boasts an impressive 805 square metres of sales floor space, the new store in Sydney will apparently span a mighty 900 square metres. (You might have seen a figure of 914 square metres floating around for the Leicester Square store, but according to Guinness World Records, that measurement includes the backroom area and predates the 2022 expansion.)

The flagship Australian store will be located at Sydney Arcade, overlooking Pitt Street Mall, and will incorporate all the hallmarks of a LEGO Store – including a Pick and Build wall, Build a Minifigure stations, and even Australia’s first-ever LEGO Minifigure Factory. Huge brick-built sculptures of Australian cultural touchstones will also be littered around the store, such as a minifigure being hugged by a pair of koalas.

There’s no word yet on whether we can expect the same ‘retailtainment’ experiences as in other flagship LEGO Stores in London, New York and Barcelona – including the Tree of Discovery, Interactive Storytelling Zone and Personalisation Studio – but the presence of the Minifigure Factory, which is part of the Personalisation Studio in other stores, suggests the Sydney location will have at least some of those hands-on opportunities.

“Supporting the LEGO Group’s mission to inspire and develop builders of tomorrow, the immersive new store will feature creative play experiences, with playful nods to Australian culture that are sure to create lasting memories for every Aussie or visitor from around the world,” said Troy Taylor, Vice President and General Manager of LEGO Australia and New Zealand.

The new flagship LEGO Store in Sydney is due to open later this year, but a firm date has yet to be revealed.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
