A classic comic book villain is rumoured to be in The Batman 2
A new industry rumour suggests that Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 may just feature the appearance of yet another classic DC Comics villain.
The Batman 2 is currently in development, with the sequel to the 2022 original to once again be directed by Matt Reeves, with Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, and a release date scheduled for October 3, 2025. There’s no word yet as to what the plot of the cinematic sequel may be or how the plans of the newly-restructured DC Studios may play a part in the film (if any).

Whilst The Riddler was front-and-centre as the main villain of The Batman, a new rumour suggests that a different kind of comic book villain may be introduced in the follow-up. Deadline reports that their sources are suggesting the script for The Batman 2 is ‘constantly changing,’ and that Clayface may be making his big screen debut in the movie.
Originally appearing in Detective Comics # 40 in June 1940, the character of Clayface has popped up in a number of iterations over the years, including a shape-shifting creature capable of looking like anyone it encounters. Clayface also appeared in the LEGO Batman Movie in 2017, as well as in two LEGO sets to date, 70904 Clayface Splat Attack and 76122 Batcave: Clayface Invasion.
The report goes on to say that a Clayface feature film script has also been pitched to DC Studios by Mike Flanagan, the director of Doctor Sleep. Whilst no deal is said to have been greenlit regarding such a project, it certainly sounds as if the massive muck-based monster might just be appearing in some form in the near future.
