There’s clearly an appetite for LEGO Star Wars prequel-era sets

With 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship on backorder just over a week after its release, the appetite for LEGO Star Wars prequel-era sets is clearly there.

Released on September 1, LEGO Star Wars 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship is already on backorder in the UK and Europe, with orders shipping from September 15. This isn’t too. much of a disruption, as you can still secure your copy of the red gunship for when the LEGO Group catches back, but it does demonstrate that there was potentially more demand for 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship than first thought.

This could bode well for Star Wars prequel fans, an era of Star Wars that is typically underserved. Recent LEGO Star Wars sets tend to hark back to the original trilogy or hook onto new entries to the franchise like the sequels, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and now, of course, Ahsoka. Still, whatever you think of the prequel movies, they are aesthetically exciting, full of colour and vibrant designs for both characters and ships.

Therefore, there’s plenty of fodder to build out more sets based on this pre-Order 66 era, just like in 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship, recognisably from those early Star Wars days due to its red colouring. As noted in our review, the LEGO Group seemed to be aiming this more at children and younger builders, but the popular demand suggests that it appealed to LEGO Star Wars fans from across a wide range of age groups. After all, as we pointed out, the striking colour and clever reimagining of a familiar ship means it lends itself well to an adult LEGO Star Wars display, as well as being a minifigure-fuelled playset.

Indeed, LEGO Star Wars rumours for 2024 suggest that the LEGO Group might be leaning heavily into the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace. With the clear popularity of 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship, we’d imagine it will be a popular year among the community, if the rumours, sourced via Promobricks, prove to be true.
