Comparing LEGO Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Dioramas to classic sets

Two new LEGO Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Dioramas were revealed yesterday, but how do they compare to similar classic sets of yesteryear?

The LEGO Group unleashed the Force yesterday with three new product announcements in the shape of 75355 X-wing Starfighter, 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama and 75353 Endor Speeder Chase Diorama. The latter models continue the sub-theme’s brick-built recreations of recognisable scenes from the original trilogy, following in the footsteps of 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama, 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama and 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama.

However, the two new LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection sets aren’t the first to visit their specific scenes from Return of the Jedi. 75093 Death Star Final Duel was released in 2015 and offered a larger version of the iconic moment where Luke Skywalker confronts his father one last time. The 724-piece build included a much more expansive version of the Emperor’s throne room, as well as two Royal Guard minifigures, both of which are sadly absent from 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama.

A much earlier version of 75353 Endor Speeder Chase Diorama heads in the other direction, with 7128 Speeder Bikes containing just 93 pieces. First available in 1999, the set did gain two Scout Trooper minifigures (but no Princess Leia) and a very basic tree build that didn’t really manage to capture the towering redwoods of Endor. Likewise, the included Speeder Bikes were very simple versions of the Imperial rides, lacking detail or an accurate colour scheme.

75352 Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama will be priced at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99, while 75353 Endor Speeder Chase Diorama launches for £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99. Both sets release on May 1 and can be pre-ordered in advance from April 7.
