Comparing LEGO Marvel’s giant Helicarriers: 2015 vs. 2026
LEGO Marvel 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier isn’t the first time the theme has tackled the vehicle at this scale, but how does it stack up next to its 11-year-old predecessor?
Unveiled today and arriving in June is 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, an updated and revised version of 2015’s 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier. There are more differences between these two sets than first meet the eye, so let’s dive in and see how they compare…
The numbers
The easiest and most obvious point of comparison between the two Helicarriers are the raw numbers: which one is bigger, which one includes more pieces and which one costs more? Check out the table below to see how the stats compare.

| 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier | 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier |
|---|---|
| (adjusted for inflation) £391.89 / $482.56 / €467.71 | £329.99 / $399.99 / €369.99 |
| 2,996 pieces | 3,057 pieces |
| 29cm tall, 80cm long | 30cm tall, 68cm long |
While 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier includes more pieces than its predecessor, it’s actually 12cm shorter – a reflection of the design language of LEGO in 2026, as sets use a greater number of smaller elements to achieve more intricate detail but often at the expense of the overall size of the model.
The new set compares favourably in terms of price when adjusting the original for inflation, though of course that’s not the only metric worth considering: wages haven’t necessarily kept pace with inflation, for instance, so consumer purchasing power isn’t what it was in 2015. And from a price-per-piece perspective, it’s hard to say either set is generous value in the US and Europe.
The source material

Both of these Helicarrers pull from the same source material for the model itself, which is the original Avengers Assemble movie from 2012. LEGO designer Mark Stafford said the team attempted the Helicarrier from Captain America and the Winter Soldier this time round, but design differences including the large glass dome on the craft’s belly proved too restricting.

However, where 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier leaned into its microscale format with multiple mini Quinjets, aircraft and a variety of unique printed nanofigures, 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier only includes microscale Quinjets and forgoes the nanofigures. The interior is instead populated with characters that take the same approach as the Easter eggs inside Star Wars’ midi-scale ships (stacked 1×1 round plates).
The design

Even though both sets are adapting the same source material, they’re actually quite different in execution. The original Helicarrier is a very studdy affair, but the new one uses more tiles for a smoother finish, and takes advantage of the modern parts palette for more accurate shaping all-round. The solid white lines along the runway also appear to be brick-built rather than stickered (although stickers are still used for the dotted lines and other details).

There’s no getting away from the fact this is a big grey blob, either, but the original Helicarrier at least incorporated trans-blue elements around the engines to provide a few pops of colour. The new set mostly does away with those, though in their place are a handful of flame pieces to simulate one of the engines exploding.
The minifigures

Alongside its aforementioned nanofigures, 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier includes five minifigures, three of which remain exclusive to the 2015 set: Maria Hill, Nick Fury and Captain America. The versions of Black Widow and Hawkeye included have also appeared in at least one other LEGO Marvel set.

76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, on the other hand, includes six minifigures that (at the time of announcement) are all exclusive to this set. Captain America is new from head to toe and features dual-moulded legs for the first time, while Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Agent Coulson, Hawkeye and Winter Soldier all feature some combination of new heads, torsos, arms or legs.
You’ll be able to get your hands on 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores from June 1, 2026 for £329.99 / $399.99 / €369.99.
