An unofficial LEGO store in Grand Rapids has had its business disrupted thanks to a van crashing into the storefront, causing notable damage.
As 13 On Your Side reports, Bricks & Minifigs' physical shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan is currently temporarily closed due to a van crashing through the storefront on early Saturday morning – less than a year since it opened.
The extent of the damage has been documented on the store's Facebook page and the website has confirmed that the store is temporarily closed while the damage is sorted. Thankfully, the damage to the support column is not bad enough that it is unsafe to be in the shop, but understandably it's not fit for business at the moment. The company's other stores across the US remain open though.
"There was a white cargo van and apparently, witnesses say it was stopped at the light but then accelerated through the light and hit the store, came through the glass in the wall and went all the way up to the support beam at full speed and the support beam is what stopped the van." owner Julia Petersen tells 13 On Your Side.
With a damaged support column, a missing wall and a messy storefront, operations will likely be more difficult for Bricks & Minifigs Grand Rapids in the months to come. However, that doesn't mean it will stop entirely as Petersen has confirmed that they plan to host pop-up shops and events around Grand Rapids.
