Unofficial builds emerged before LEGO Star Wars Yavin IV rumour

A rumour for a LEGO Star Wars Yavin IV set suggests that we’ll finally see the base brick-built, but unofficial versions are abundant online.

According to Instagram user brick_clicker, a Yavin IV set could be coming on August 1, 2023, with a potential price point of $159.99. This might finally be offering us a version of the brick-built base seen in a prototype and unreleased model featured in the 2009 LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary.

However, this rumour has yet to be confirmed at the time of writing and it should be taken with adequate caution until an official announcement arrives.

Since the initial image of the prototype Yavin IV model, the online LEGO community have depicted a few different versions of the base with varying scales, sizes and complexity.

On LEGO Ideas, two expired projects proposed a model of Yavin IV’s rebel base. Brickster0404 pitched a corner of the temple in 2016 with a hangar, medal ceremony chamber, control room and a smaller A-wing Starfighter to boot.

Brick Lens opted for a larger version in 2015 with half the temple represented and a similar selection of rooms, though neither managed to reach the 10,000 supporters needed to be considered for a model.

Bruxxy’s build on Rebrickable from 2020 uses more than double the rumoured piece count at 2,293 parts but depicts the temple with a microscale exterior with scaled ships and a minifigure-compatible interior to contrast. It’s an interesting take on how to properly represent the massive location at a realistic size and scale.

Over on Twitter in 2018, Mark Segedie showcased the interior of another Yavin IV model with a similar layout to 75251 Darth Vader’s Castle, focusing on height with multiple floors.

These custom creations from the years before the 2023 rumour could offer an idea of the different approaches to the iconic temple base though they all differ greatly from the prototype build with more focus on an accurate exterior.
