Custom companion for LEGO Star Wars 75379 R2-D2 has good timing
LEGO Star Wars 75379 R2-D2 might have an official companion later, but in the meantime, a custom Star Wars Rebels creation scales perfectly.
While a C-3PO set that could theoretically be to scale with 75379 R2-D2 is rumoured to be on the way, you don’t need to wait to pair up the new LEGO Star Wars set with a similarly iconic droid. Ron_macphatty on Reddit and Rebrickable has shared their design for a Chopper recreation inspired by Star Wars Rebels and Ahsoka at the same scale as 75379 R2-D2.
There are many custom depictions of Chopper out there but the new scale debuted with 75379 R2-D2 means that this version is more affordable and more easily displayable without skipping major details.
The instructions for the custom Chopper model are available on Rebrickable for an extra cost, the description of which confirms that its parts are either common or not overly expensive on BrickLink. They estimate that Chopper should cost you around £75 for all 980 pieces or £80 with the instructions.
It will be interesting to see how many other custom droids at the new scale introduced with 75379 R2-D2 surface online in the next few months, years and beyond. This scale should make similar droid models more affordable and easier to display than the scale featured in 75308 R2-D2.
