LEGO Star Wars 75379 R2-D2 may scale with another rumoured set

A rumoured upcoming LEGO Star Wars set might just be the perfect scaled companion to stand alongside the recently revealed 75379 R2-D2.

There was plenty for LEGO Star Wars fans to get excited about yesterday, with a first look at both 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV and 75379 R2-D2. Neither set has been officially announced by the LEGO Group so far, but the 25th anniversary packaging (complete with new celebratory logo), exclusive minifigures and the reveal of the models themselves are still all worth salivating over.

However, despite a lot of the attention being focused on 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV, it’s quite possible that 75379 R2-D2 may ultimately prove to be more of a desirable set. Despite being a smaller build than 75308 R2-D2, the upcoming release still appears to pack in plenty of functionality, as well as what will undoubtedly be a highly-desirable Darth Malak minifigure that’s included with the model.

While some may question the reasoning behind releasing yet another R2-D2 set with another larger version still available, it’s possible that a rumoured upcoming LEGO Star Wars release for 2024 may just explain the method behind the madness.

Recent reports have suggested that a buildable C-3PO might also be on its way at some point this year, one that could be dropping for a higher than expected price point. Rumours seem to hint at 75398 Buildable C-3PO coming in at $149.99 for 1,132 pieces, with the possibility of drum-lacquered pieces being one way of justifying the golden protocol droid’s cost.

In addition, there’s an opportunity here for the LEGO Star Wars design team to release a set that also scales well with 75379 R2-D2, delivering the perfect brick-built versions of the iconic bickering droids.

The listing for the plucky Astromech doesn’t reveal its height, but with 75371 Chewbacca coming in at over 48cm tall and R2-D2 being a lot smaller than the Wookiee, that could give 75398 Buildable C-3PO the chance to sit perfectly between the two LEGO Star Wars builds, even if that scale wouldn’t quite match the actual comparative sizes of the characters.

Of course that’s pure speculation on our part for now, so do treat these musings as such and we’ll bring you updates on all of the builds as soon as we have more details.
