Disney reveals date for fan expo, teasing Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars announcements

Disney has confirmed the date for ‘the ultimate Disney fan event’, teasing announcements for franchises like Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars.

In a new website, Disney has confirmed the dates for D23 in California’s Anaheim, with the event taking place between August 9 and 11, 2024. Such expos from Disney usually include trailer previews and panels from executives, actors, and directors laying out what to expect from your favourite Disney franchises.

The main topics highlighted on the D23 website are (of course) Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. The most prominent ones we’ll certainly be keeping our eyes on are naturally Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars, with the potential for many LEGO sets for 2024 and even 2025 to be hooked to shows announced at next year’s expo.

For example, while there was no D23 this year, 2022’s huge fan event gave us plenty to think about for both Marvel and Star Wars. Not only is getting an early look at upcoming titles exciting as fans, but it also gives us some evidence of what to expect from our LEGO sets, demonstrating where Disney’s priorities are. In 2022, the focus was on The Bad Batch, Andor, and Ahsoka – three titles that have been well-covered in the LEGO Star Wars theme since.

The same can be said for LEGO Marvel (although to a lesser extent), with hints being dropped for Werewolf by Night, X-Men crossovers, and more. These priorities are reflected in the line-up of 71039 Marvel Series 2, featuring characters from these titles and more besides.

All in all, mark your calendars for August 9 next year, because there are sure to be some exciting developments up Disney’s sleeves.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
