Disney reveals exact profits since buying Star Wars
Disney has more than made their money back since buying Lucasfilm and Star Wars in 2012, revealing the exact profits from the purchase.
As stated by The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has revealed how much the company has made off Lucasfilm since the massive $4 billion purchase in 2012 and it’s safe to say that it was a wise acquisition financially.
The company has shared that since buying Lucasfilm and ownership of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, the company has made more than three times the cost in value or $12 billion in value. While it’s stated to be in terms of value, that’s a theoretical profit of around $8 billion in 12 years.
The company also outlined the profits since purchasing Marvel. That acquisition was for $4 billion in 2009 and various projects, products and experiences have generated $13.2 billion in value in 15 years, or $9.2 billion in profit theoretically.
The likes of The Mandalorian and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have almost certainly helped achieve this and with a Mandalorian movie and more films on the way and new series on Disney+ including The Bad Batch, these numbers may only keep rising.
Disney notes that these figures are pulled from company data and reflect the ratio between revenue and investment on titles released following Disney’s acquisition of Marvel and Star Wars. It’s also stated that revenue reflects aggregate 10-year revenue streams, both generated and expected, directly associated with the releases (including theatrical, home entertainment, pay and free television and consumer products).
