Does this new LEGO Marvel set include a taboo reference?

The upcoming LEGO Marvel 76200 Bro Thor’s New Asgard seems to include an explicit detail that would normally be out of the question for the LEGO Group.

The first reviews for LEGO Marvel 76200 Bro Thor’s New Asgard have crossed the rainbow bridge and landed online, revealing the model’s numerous references. However, one of them is arguably the most clear-cut allusion to alcohol in the company’s history.

Sitting on the rubbish-laden floor of Thor’s messy abode is a keg complete with tap. Such objects are usually filled with strong drinks such as beer or ale. That makes it a fitting piece of furniture for the Asgardian warrior’s home. However, as revealed by an early review, this barrel is filled with two transparent yellow studs in what could be an explicit reference to alcohol.

The topic of alcohol is one that the LEGO Group has always tried to avoid over the course of its almost 90-year history, with LEGO Ideas even ruling out the use of such drinks or even references to them in brick-built projects and entries.

Whilst the LEGO Group could clarify that the studs represent a refreshing juice or lemonade, the presence of them in a set containing Thor – who was inebriated during the same scene in Avengers: Endgame – within a keg makes for a strong argument that this is the first LEGO beer.

We’ll let you know if the LEGO Group responds to this inclusion, or if this might be a sign that the company is relaxing its guidelines somewhat. Either way, this potentially historic LEGO Marvel set will be available on August 1 for £27.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 with the debut of Korg and Miek as minifigures.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
