Don’t sleep on the best LEGO Indiana Jones set to date

LEGO Indiana Jones 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol is due to retire later this year and once it has done, it’ll be gone for good.

The LEGO Group donned its dusty fedora and returned to the world of Indiana Jones in 2023, with a line-up of three movie-based sets that can still be picked up from a number of retailers to this very day. Despite no models being released to support Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in that same year, fans still welcomed the theme’s short-term revival with open arms.

Alongside 77012 Fighter Plane Chase and 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb, it’s 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol that remains the jewel in the crown of the current LEGO Indiana Jones range of builds, priced at £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99.

Consisting of 1,545 pieces, 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol is a true one-of-a-kind set that successfully manages to encapsulate the thrilling opening scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark. From a foliage-concealed entrance and chasm swing to a light-up fertility idol and rolling boulder, the LEGO Indiana Jones model should tick every fan’s wishlist.

In addition, 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol also comes with a Hovitos Warrior, Satipo, Belloq and Indiana Jones minifigures, with the latter boasting an all-new for 2023 hat and hair combo element.

Thanks to the unique design of 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol, builders construct the model from left to right, moving steadily through the events in Raiders of Lost Ark, with various action set pieces being set up along the way.

The simple genius thinking behind the LEGO Indiana Jones build is that it’s an 18+ set aimed at adults that remember what it’s like to be a kid. 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol’s play features are guaranteed to bring a smile to even the most grizzled of fans’ faces, but the set itself is also a standalone display piece that’s packed with details.

Incredibly well thought-out, the LEGO Indiana Jones model leans heavily into nostalgia, but not at the expense of considered design. A diorama in all but name, 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol trumps similar licensed offerings thanks to being an enjoyable and engaging brick-built tribute to the franchise’s most famous scene.

Last year, the LEGO Group suggested it might not quite be finished with Dr. Henry Jones Jr. just yet, although the company did claim that ‘Indy is done for now’. That might point to the door being left open for possible future archaeological adventures one day, but currently remains wish fulfilment.

All three LEGO Indiana Jones sets are due to retire later this year, so be sure not to miss out on 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol before it’s lost to the mists of time and becomes an ancient relic itself.

The LEGO Indiana Jones model is currently temporarily out of stock at LEGO.com in the UK (although available in the US and Europe), but could well return in the remaining days, weeks and months to come, before it’ll then be gone for good.
