Every minifigure in LEGO Star Wars 75347 TIE Bomber is brand new (even the pilot)

LEGO Star Wars 75347 TIE Bomber includes four minifigures (as long as you count the Gonk Droid) – and every single one of them is brand new.

Twenty-five years in, you could forgive the LEGO Star Wars theme for recycling minifigure designs, even while the universe continues to expand with TV shows, video games, books and comics. But the LEGO Group seemingly isn’t content to rest on its laurels in 2023 – or at least not with 75347 TIE Bomber (let’s all just ignore 75344 Boba Fett’s Starship Microfighter), because every one of its minifigures uses a brand new design.

Included in the 625-piece set are a TIE Bomber Pilot, Darth Vader, Vice Admiral Rae Sloane and a Gonk Droid. We’ve had two of those characters before – Vader and the droid – while this is our first pilot specifically assigned to a bomber, and our first-ever Rae Sloane minifigure. But across new and familiar faces, none of these minifigures will already be part of your collection.

Darth Vader

At first blush, this Darth Vader minifigure doesn’t look any different to the printed arms version included in 75296 Darth Vader Meditation Chamber from 2020. But lift off the helmet, and you’ll find a completely new face print for the Sith Lord. Combine it with that full-body printing – and printed arms certainly weren’t a given – and this is a Darth Vader minifigure that absolutely justifies its presence in 75347 TIE Bomber.

TIE Bomber Pilot

Okay, you’re going to need to squint for this one: the only thing really distinguishing the TIE Bomber Pilot from the countless other TIE Pilot minifigures is the printing on its torso, and even then the differences are so minute that only diehard LEGO Star Wars collectors will likely care. It’s not worth buying 75347 TIE Bomber for by any means, but as the set obviously needed a pilot of some sort, we’re not going to knock getting a brand new minifigure.

Rae Sloane

A character so far only seen in comics, books and video games, Rae Sloane’s presence in this set is probably explained by the 2020 anthology novel From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back. That’s a deep cut for the LEGO Star Wars team for sure, but we’ll take any chance to add a new character to our collections (remember, 25 years!). She’s got a brand new torso, giving hips to the Imperial Officer, and a unique head print too.

Gonk Droid

We’ve had plenty of Gonk Droids before, but none have looked quite as good as this. Comprised of just 13 pieces, the droid makes smart use of the Imperial crate from 75311 Imperial Armored Marauder to add detail, and while it’s obviously oversized compared to its minifigure counterparts, that’s really part of the charm of LEGO Star Wars. Did we mention it’s a Gonk Droid?

You’ll be able to add all four of these minifigures to your own LEGO Star Wars collection from January 1, 2023, when 75347 TIE Bomber arrives on shelves. Oh, and the ship’s pretty good too

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
