Every reference in LEGO Disney 43227 Villain Icons you might have missed

There’s more than just hidden minifigures in LEGO Disney 43227 Villains Icons; there are also a number of references you might have missed.

As LEGO Disney’s answer to LEGO Harry Potter 76391 Hogwarts Icons – Collectors’ Edition, the colourful design of 43227 Villain Icons contains a number of. references to more movies than just those its minifigures come from. From minor details plucked straight from the iconic movies to overt references to extra characters, we’ve broken down every one of them for you here.

Think there’s any more that we missed? Let us know down in the comments.

6 – Movie motifs on the book covers

Two of the largest buildable elements of the entire set are brick-built books for Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast, the fictional homes of both Maleficent and Gaston. On the cover and spine of each, you can see motifs from the respective films: thorns and a spinning wheel for Sleeping Beauty, highlighting the danger faced by Aurora; and a red rose signifying the curse that Belle will leave Gaston to undo.

Both books are also bound in colours that reflect characters from the stories, with Maleficent’s signature purple and Belle’s trademark blue.

5 – Ticking clock from Peter Pan

While no overt villain from Peter Pan appears in 43227 Villain Icons, this ticking clock features shadowy versions of Peter, Wendy, and what could be a pirate ship. Anyone who knows the story of Peter Pan will know that its villain, Captain Hook, is plagued by the crocodile that took his hand and gave him his nickname. While biting off his hand, the crocodile also ate his pocket watch and so pursued him with an ominous ticking, in search of another meal.

4 – Queen of Hearts playing card

Another villainous inclusion is the Queen of Hearts, straight out of Alice in Wonderland. Her association with playing cards is evident through every representation of her, and it’s how she’s symbolised in this set. The card looks very thin, so it’ll be interesting to see how the plated elements fit together – and whether they’re printed or stickered.

3 – The poison apple for Snow White

The buildable apple element holds a close relationship with one of the evil minifigures included in this set: Snow White’s evil stepmother, in her witchy disguise. While looking like an old crone, the evil queen offers Snow White a poisoned apple, one bite of which puts Snow White into a deep sleep that only true love’s kiss can cure.

The dripping green effect on the red apple is a unique way to represent the threat of the poison, reflecting the green potion that the queen dips the apple into, transforming into a deadly weapon rather than a healthy snack.

2 – Ursula on the VHS tape

Perhaps in a homage to 43213 The Little Mermaid Story Book and 43225 The Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell, Ursala also appears in this set, on the front of a The Little Mermaid VHS tape. For our younger readers, VHS tapes were what came before streaming and DVDs and used to be the only way to watch films at home.

1 – Jafar on the spine of Aladdin

While Genie Jafar appears as a minifigure in 43227 Villain Icons, we also saw another of the villain’s forms, tucked away on the spine of Aladdin. Clasping his staff and emblazoned with flames, his clothing matches the red and pink colour scheme of the entire buildable element.
