Crowdfunding has closed on Series 8 of the BrickLink Designer Program, and the final sales numbers for its five fan-designed LEGO sets are in. Here’s how they stack up to previous rounds…
Pre-orders for Dustmark Keep, Coconut Cape, Brick Railroad Locomotive, University of Science and Hot Air Balloon wrapped up at 9pm BST last night (June 18), concluding Series 8 of the BrickLink Designer Program. And thanks to the source code at BrickLink, we can calculate the final sales numbers for the entire quintet of limited-edition LEGO sets.
| Series 8 set | Price | Maximum allocation | Number pre-ordered | Estimated value of pre-orders |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dustmark Keep | £319.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 | 40,000 | 35,321 | £10.7m / $11.7m / €11.7m |
| University of Science | £329.99 / $359.99 / €359.99 | 30,000 | 22,111 | £6.7m / $7.5m / €7.5m |
| Brick Railroad Locomotive | £109.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 | 30,000 | 24,752 | £2.5m / $2.8m / €2.8m |
| Coconut Cape | £189.99 / $209.99 / €209.99 | 30,000 | 25,245 | £4.5m / $5m / €5m |
| Hot Air Balloon | £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99 | 30,000 | 21,180 | £1.4m / $1.6m / €1.6m |
These numbers have jumped considerably over the past 24 hours pretty much across the board, pointing to a flurry of last-minute orders just before the deadline.
Dustmark Keep is the clear winner again, as is often the case for castle-themed BrickLink Designer Program sets, at 35,321 pre-orders – but this is the first time every single model has surpassed 20,000 sales in a single series, pointing to the overall strength of this selection.
You can see how these numbers compare to previous series in the table below…
Dustmark Keep is the third-best-selling castle-themed set so far (or fourth if you consider Adventure in Transylvania medieval), although that obviously comes with the caveat that the first four series’ sets were capped at 30,000 pre-orders each. Who knows where Mountain Fortress or Siege Encampment would have ended up in this list under the current dynamic production allocation model?
The pirates-themed Coconut Cape couldn’t quite hit the heights of Thieves of Tortuga or Privateer Frigate Fortuna, meanwhile, but it did outsell Series 2’s Ominous Isle. And University of Science sold favourably compared to previous modular-adjacent buildings such as The Art Factory and Parisian Street, but lagged behind Brick Cross Train Station and Sushi Restaurant.
The future of the BrickLink Designer Program
