First images of LEGO Technic 42146 Liebherr LR 13000 – and a new price

An online retailer has published the first images of this year’s long-awaited flagship LEGO Technic set, 42146 Liebherr LR 13000 – and potentially confirmed its final RRP.

Originally rumoured to release last summer, and then in January, the mighty crawler crane will apparently be arriving on shelves on August 1. Reports first pegged the 2,883-piece set at €450, then $680, and finally $700 earlier this month – but according to a listing at French retailer Cdiscount, 42146 Liebherr LR 13000 will actually retail for €559.99.

The only other set currently available with that price tag at LEGO.com in France is 2000431 Connections Kit, a Serious Play product designed for businesses to use in workshops. Its equivalent UK price is £489.99, while in the US it costs $754.99. That’s perhaps not the best yardstick for figuring out the Liebherr’s international price, though (Serious Play is its own beast), so the closest true comparison comes from 10276 Colosseum.

That 2020 Creator Expert set costs €549.99 in France, £474.99 in the UK and $549.99 in the US, so we’re probably looking at roughly £490 and $580 for 42146 Liebherr LR 13000 – which would still make it the most expensive LEGO Technic set of all time, even if it’s some way off the rumoured $700 price tag. We’ll be able to confirm the international pricing for the crane as soon as it pops up on LEGO.com (or we hear directly from the LEGO Group).

Cdiscount doesn’t give away much else about 42146 Liebherr LR 13000 at the moment, but the images confirm that it will at least be compatible with CONTROL+ (which explains the disparity between piece count and price), and that it will be absolutely massive. Just check out those images of it next to the lifestyle model…

We’ll bring you more on 42146 Liebherr LR 13000, including its full list of functions, as soon as we have it.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
