The first LEGO set to have paper bags has been confirmed

A LEGO Creator set will be the first model to debut the promised paper bags widely, following the initial promise two years ago.

Brickset is reporting that LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31111 Cyber Drone will be the first LEGO set to feature the wide release of paper bags. These sustainable alternatives to plastic bags were previously scheduled to release in 2022, though the report mentions that the new version of 31111 Cyber Drone will be available soon, leaving some time to fulfil that promise.

To denote whether a copy of 31111 Cyber Drone contains paper or plastic bags, there’s an easy way to tell thanks to a graphic that will likely be present on all LEGO sets with sustainable packaging. Note that a small amount of plastic is still included in the bags to protect the bricks and strengthen the bag, but it’s not enough to stop it from being recyclable.

The LEGO Group’s goal is to completely transition from plastic bags to paper bags by 2025, in all sets and polybags. The foil bags previously used for the LEGO magazines have also started to be replaced recently.

That red thing in the corner, do you think that kind of looks like a Star Wars royal guard helmet set?

I hope that the paper bags are reusable to pack pieces when the sets are dismantled. The current bags break up on opening.
