Five LEGO January 2024 sets you might have overlooked

New LEGO sets are right around the corner but within the massive January 2024 selection are a few models that you might have overlooked.

The annual season of new LEGO models is almost here as January 2024 approaches. Looking through the lengthy list of sets releasing on January 1, 2024, suffice it to say that baskets are sure to be full in just a few days.

Still, while you may have your eyes on a specific selection of the new sets, don’t overlook these five models for their unique features, display opportunities, minifigures and more.

5 – 31211 Macaw Parrots

Theme: LEGO Art Price: £44.99 / $59.99 / €49.99 Pieces: 644

Not only is 31211 Macaw Parrots the start of a new collection of LEGO sets focusing on Fauna, but the LEGO Art model combines an artistic concept with two building systems. Both Technic and System elements are weaved together in a pair of beautiful brick-built birds ready for display around the home. As a late addition to the January 2024 LEGO line-up, it may have been overshadowed by other upcoming releases.

4 – 40673 Spring Festival Mickey Mouse

Theme: LEGO BrickHeadz Price: £9.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 Pieces: 120

While a new Mickey Mouse BrickHeadz was released in 2023 based on the Steamboat Willie iteration of the character, the modern version’s BrickHeadz has been retired since 2018. Thankfully, Disney fans have an opportunity to pick up a new Mickey Mouse caricature in 2023 thanks to 40673 Spring Festival Mickey Mouse in some festive festival attire.

3 – 80053 Mei’s Dragon Mech

Theme: LEGO Monkie Kid Price: £74.99 / $99.99 / €84.99 Pieces: 990

80053 Mei’s Dragon Mech may not be branded as a fifth-anniversary set in its name, unlike 80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary, but this mech model should still appeal to LEGO Monkie Kid enthusiasts as well as those less interested in the theme. As well as the stylish launch bay framing, massive mech and posable robots, its minifigures appear to debut a new pauldron element.

2 – 21257 The Devourer Showdown

Theme: LEGO Minecraft Price: £39.99 / $44.99 / €44.99 Pieces: 420

LEGO Minecraft’s limited range of spin-off sets is expanding in 2024 following the launch of Minecraft Legends in 2023. 21257 The Devourer Showdown may attract interest from those not usually enthused by LEGO Minecraft thanks to an array of new elements specific to the game. This is one of the most unique LEGO Minecraft sets so far, thanks in no small part to the unique art style that sets it apart from other LEGO Minecraft sets.

1 – 76278 Rocket’s Warbird vs. Ronan

Theme: LEGO Marvel Price: £31.99 / $37.99 / €37.99 Pieces: 290

LEGO Marvel’s January 2024 selection is undoubtedly busy with the return of X-Men and a new No Way Home set. That doesn’t mean you should overlook 76278 Rocket’s Warbird vs. Ronan though as it brings back Ronan the Accuser from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, adapted for a newer part selection.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
