Generic LEGO football scarf coming to VIP Rewards Centre in November
An exclusive LEGO football scarf is coming to the VIP Rewards Centre in November, just in time to generically support any and every team at this year’s FIFA World Cup.
Decked out in white and yellow – colours very few teams play in, beyond (for example) Brazil in 2014 – the LEGO-branded scarf attempts to cater to all football fans, and in doing so probably caters to none of them. If your team plays in red and black, would you want to wear a white and yellow scarf to a game? The LEGO Group hopes so, because it’s encouraging shoppers who do snap up the scarf to share photos of themselves wearing it at a match. Maybe if you’re going along as a neutral spectator?
It’s a confused understanding of the football market that we’ve already seen play out in 21337 Table Football, a set that also sits at odds with the scarf’s design. Rather than blank footballers, as per actual foosball tables (and the scarf), the latest LEGO Ideas set includes 22 minifigures that are anything but generic, with a total of 44 alternative heads and 43 hairpieces in the box.

The VIP-exclusive scarf will be available from November 1 for 3,120 points, or the equivalent of just under £20 in discount vouchers. You’ll need to have spent between £200 and £400 (depending on whether you’ve shopped during a double VIP points event) to rack up that number of points. Like all physical VIP rewards, redeeming your points for the scarf will give you a code that must be applied to an order at LEGO.com within 60 days. You’ll then receive the scarf alongside the rest of your order.
If you want to keep the football theme going, 21337 Table Football will be available to purchase from November 1 at the same time. Otherwise, there are plenty of other goodies available at LEGO.com right now, including our entire Top 20 LEGO Sets List (save for 10294 Titanic, unfortunately).

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
