Glass Onion director builds ‘elaborate LEGO sets’ during editing

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery director Rian Johnson has revealed that building LEGO sets is a helpful step in the editing process.

Speaking to Deadline, Rian Johnson has showcased his love of LEGO once more by revealing that brick-built models play a huge part in the editing process, or at least making things less awkward in the editing room.

Johnson mentions that giving control of editing over to someone else, Bob Ducsay for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, is frustrating, preferring to edit himself for a more ‘organic’ process. However, that wasn’t going to be the case for Glass Onion, but Johnson still preferred to be alongside Bob during editing, though it was awkward at first.

Thankfully, there’s a familiar tool that helps to eliminate this awkward factor by keeping Johnson’s hands busy with ‘elaborate’ LEGO sets.

“If I don’t keep my hands busy, I will go insane while we’re editing,” says Johnson. “So, there’s actually been a method to my LEGO madness.”

Exactly what LEGO sets Rian Johnson has been building during production is unclear, but complex creations could include the likes of LEGO Icons, Technic and Art. The thought of the director putting together 10307 Eiffel Tower on a table while Ducsay continues editing is interesting, to say the least.

It’s not the first time that Rian Johnson has professed his love for LEGO, with a previous report detailing that while working on the screenplay for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, he was also building LEGO sets
