Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 confirmed as Drax’s final appearance

Director James Gunn has confirmed that Drax will make his final appearance in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Marvel Studios revealed a first look at its upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in December 2022, with the motley crew of comic book characters back for one last adventure. The second sequel picks up directly after the events of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is currently available to stream on Disney+.

The trailer for the film dropped at CCXP in Brazil and showcases James Gunn’s last Marvel movie (at least for now), as the director has since gone on to take up the creative reins at rival DC Studios. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on the big screen on May 5, 2023 and listings for rumoured LEGO sets based on the film recently appeared on an Italian retailer’s website.

In a new interview with GQ magazine, Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista has revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last time that he portrays the character, stating that he’s even ‘relieved’ about it. Gunn then took to Instagram to confirm that the statement was indeed true, with his last MCU movie also being Bautista’s and Drax’s.

It’s unlikely that another actor would step into Bautista’s shoes and portray the character in live-action form and the announcement certainly raises questions about the fate of the character in the film, as well as the future of the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast within the MCU.
