How to build more LEGO Sea Serpent Black Knights with Pick a Brick

The main advantage of the new LEGO Castle 40912 Sea Serpent’s recycled minifigures is that they’re easy to assemble via Pick a Brick, so here are all the parts you’ll need.

40912 Sea Serpent is free with all orders above $180 / €180 (UK threshold TBC) from July 7, and includes two brand new modernised Black Knights minifigures. For better or worse, though, these minifigures are comprised entirely of existing elements – which is bad news for anyone hoping for a unique torso, but good news for army builders.

That’s because everything you need to add more warriors to this army is available right now on Pick a Brick. You’ll just need to get comfortable with removing and replacing arms, as the torsos swap out the dark red limbs of the Griffin Knight with dark blue.

At the time of writing, the Griffin Knight torso from 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine is in stock at Pick a Brick for £1.12, while you can find dark blue arms on a generic LEGO torso for £1.03. Don’t forget to swap the gold hands on to the blue arms if you want to match the Sea Serpent knights one for one, too.

The Black Knights in the Ideas set both sport the same helmet, which is listed in the table below alongside a couple of other options if you’re looking to inject some variety into your army. They both use standard black legs, so you’ll find a direct link to those too. In terms of minifigure heads, take your pick from basically anything on Pick a Brick…

A full minifigure assembly – head, torso (and arms), legs and helmet – should run you somewhere in the region of £3.20.

The main ingredient here is really that torso, although of course the element that properly distinguishes this faction is the brand new and exclusive shield in 40912 Sea Serpent. That one isn't available on Pick a Brick yet, but here’s hoping it will be one day – not all gift-with-purchase pieces arrive on PAB, so it’s not guaranteed, but it’d be a real shame if there was no way to easily acquire more.
