Ideas and BrickLink Designer Program fan designer joins the LEGO Group
Once a fan designer for LEGO Ideas and the BrickLink Designer Program, Thomas Lajon will soon take on a designer role at the LEGO Group.
Thomas Lajon was the creative mind behind the original idea for LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train and also BrickLink Designer Program Series 3’s The Lost City. Now, he’s announced in a Facebook post that a ‘dream has come true’ and he will be working at the LEGO Group as a model designer for two years, starting in February.
“A dream come true and proof that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible,” he wrote. “Wishing you all an amazing 2025. Believe in yourselves and your projects—small ideas can lead to great adventures.”

This news comes just after the news that another fan designer Sokoda, who worked on 910007 BIONICLE Legends, a set that didn’t manage to become a funded BrickLink Designer Program set in the 2021 invitational, has also accepted a job at the LEGO Group. It’s further encouragement for anyone who’s ever hoped to become a LEGO designer to get involved in fan-based design opportunities like LEGO Ideas and the BrickLink Designer Program.
While it’s obviously not a guarantee of a job, it’s clear that the LEGO Group keeps an eye out for promising talent in those pools. Plus, having a popular community project under your belt is never going to do any harm to an application to work at the LEGO Group. Submissions for BrickLink Series 7 will open on January 20, so mark your calendars and get your projects ready to go. LEGO Ideas is always accepting submissions for fan-designed projects.
