Illumination knows the perfect LEGO 71411 The Mighty Bowser companion set

The Mario Day 2024 video announcing a new Mario Bros. Movie acknowledges the ideal companion set for LEGO 71411 The Mighty Bowser.

Keep an eye on the background in Nintendo’s Mario Day 2024 video as you might spot some familiar models when Chris Meladandri, CEO of Illumination, is speaking about the upcoming second Super Mario Bros. movie.

As well as references to Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, Despicable Me and Super Mario, a couple of the Mario displays in Meladandri’s office should look familiar.

On the left, the giant Question Mark Block seems to be about the same size as 71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block and it could well be the currently available LEGO Super Mario model.

The most interesting reference is on the right of Melandri though as what is unmistakably 71411 The Mighty Bowser can be spotted next to 21323 Grand Piano. This is almost certainly a reference to the Peaches song featured in the film that went viral. At the time of writing, the music video on YouTube has 103 million views.

Pairing these two sets is nothing new as many enthusiasts including LEGO store employees have placed the two sets together to match the song’s scene using two oddly ideally-scaled models.

At least Nintendo and Illumination have finally acknowledged just how well these two sets work together, cementing 21323 Grand Piano as the perfect companion to 71411 The Mighty Bowser. Both sets are available now but we’d note that there are double points on LEGO Super Mario sets until March 11.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
