Is LEGO NINJAGO’s first 2026 set good value?

LEGO NINJAGO’s first 2026 set to be revealed is drawing criticisms online for its high price, but it’s not as bad a value as you might believe.

LEGO NINJAGO 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith is the first 15th-anniversary and 2026 NINJAGO set to be revealed. While many of the reactions have focused on the new minifigures, much of the discussion online has revolved around its price and whether or not the model is overpriced. With 1,259 pieces, 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith costs £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 and also includes six exclusive minifigures.

” I wish they used a baseplate or fewer pieces so it could cost less, but it’s still a good set,” commented akfhhr following the reveal.

“Yeah, the price does seem steep for what’s included. But with as many pieces as it has, it must just be a really dense build,” responded TwstdPrtzl.

These are just a handful of the comments over on Reddit discussing and debating the price and piece count of 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith, and we’ve seen other discussions across social media and forums online doing the same. The piece count compared to the price makes it a good value according to the $0.10 per piece ratio, but that’s not always the best indicator of value.

Here’s a look at how 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith statistically compares to other non-licensed models of similar context and size.

Comparing 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith just to more recent releases, such as 42669 Beekeepers’ House and Flower Garden and 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle, the NINJAGO model looks to be a good value in its piece count, minifigure selection and price. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite stack up when it comes to the measurements. It’s much denser than the other builds, but this is likely thanks to it featuring a back wall and no facade aspects.

42669 Beekeepers’ House and Flower Garden is the same price as 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith, but what it lacks in the back wall and roof, it makes up for in the surrounding area. Side builds are a feature that 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith lacks, but the designer has explained that this is because of the budget needed for the four walls.

Another fully-realised LEGO building to compare 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith to would be 21325 Medieval Blacksmith. The 2,164-piece set has more elements than the NINJAGO set and costs nearly double the price at £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99, but the measurements are more comparable than you would think.

The LEGO Ideas set measures 21cm deep, 27cm wide, and 27cm high. 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith is 16cm deep, 23cm wide and 18cm tall. That’s only a difference of 5cm in depth and 4cm in width, but a difference of 9cm in height. This goes to show just how dense LEGO sets have to be when they have all four walls and packed interior spaces.

LEGO NINJAGO 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith will launch on January 1, 2026, retailing at £89.99 in the UK, $99.99 in the US, and from €99.99 in Europe. Whether it’s a good value or not will depend on your personal judgement, but it’s certainly not overpriced compared to previous and more recent LEGO models.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
