Latest episode of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi adds weight to LEGO rumours

The latest episode of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi adds weight to rumours around a third LEGO set based on the series coming later this year.

Heavy spoilers for the third episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi – which debuted on Disney+ earlier today – follow, so if you haven’t yet watched it, bookmark this page for later and come back when you’ve caught up.

Two LEGO Star Wars sets based on Obi-Wan Kenobi have been revealed so far, including 75336 Inquisitor Transport Scythe and 40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader. According to early rumours surrounding this summer’s LEGO Star Wars wave, however, a third is also planned for launch in August, with the working title 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader.

Those same reports describe the third, as-yet-unrevealed model as a diorama (but not part of the Diorama Collection, confusingly), depicting a 30-stud-wide scene on a lava-filled planet. That suggested we might see Kenobi and Vader face off on Mustafar at some point in the series – but given the minifigures said to be included, the set actually seems more likely to be based on the third episode.

That’s because the minifigure roster for 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader will apparently consist of both eponymous characters, alongside Imperial Officer Tala Durith and droid NED-B. Both of those new characters appear in the latest episode of the series, which also sees Obi-Wan and Vader duelling in a quarry that becomes engulfed in flames.

If the description of the rumoured set is accurate, it’s very likely that the model in question is actually based on the climactic moments of the third episode, rather than a duel on Mustafar. Of course, it’s impossible to say for sure at this point – not least because this is all still just speculation hooked to rumours, but also because the series could still involve another fiery showdown between Jedi and Sith.

We’ll hopefully find out either way fairly soon, as 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader is said to launch on August – just two months from now – with 408 pieces for €49.99. With LEGO Star Wars reveals on the cards for LEGO CON, we could see the rest of the summer line-up as early as June 18.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
