LEGO Icons 10323 Pac-Man Arcade Machine rumoured for 2023

The LEGO Group is rumoured to be chomping its way back to the 1980s for another video game set in 2023, in the form of 10323 Pac-Man Arcade Machine.

Word of a LEGO Pac-Man set initially emerged online earlier this month, with a price tag of $269.99 and a piece count of 2,651. That would make it bigger than both 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System and 10306 Atari 2600, the LEGO Group’s other retro gaming sets, and equal in price to the former. But at the time, there was no indication of what a LEGO Pac-Man set might actually look like.

That’s all changed thanks to Instagram user brick_clicker, who now reports that 10323 will consist of a classic Pac-Man arcade machine. The piece count and price are reportedly still the same as before, which suggests we’re not exactly looking at a life-size arcade machine (in the same way the other sets’ consoles are fairly realistic in size), but rather a scaled-down approximation of the vintage video game.

It wouldn’t be an entirely new concept for the ghost-gobbling character, whose exploits have already been miniaturised by MY ARCADE in a six-inch micro player. A 2,561-piece LEGO set would hopefully allow for something a little bigger than that – perhaps closer to Numskull’s quarter-sized arcade cabinet – but you can see it taking a similar approach either way.

All that said, what’s probably going to make or break a set like this is whether Pac-Man is actually playable, or at least seen to be playable, in the same way you can guide Mario along the rotating screen of 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System. It’ll be quite a while before we find out one way or the other, as 10323 Pac-Man Arcade Machine is currently rumoured to hit shelves on June 1.

There’s always the potential that it doesn’t materialise as expected, too, so take this rumour – like any others – with a grain of salt for now. The next LEGO Icons set looks sure to be a Land Rover, based on a tease from the LEGO Group, and should be revealed any day now.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
