LEGO Art 31217 The Fauna Collection – Tiger references rear

The new LEGO Art 31217 The Fauna Collection – Tiger, intended or not, references the rear of the last detailed tiger model.

We’re still waiting for an official reveal and more details for the new 31217 The Fauna Collection – Tiger, following a retailer listing earlier today. In the meantime, we can look through the official images of the LEGO tiger head surrounded by flowers, which creates an interesting link to another tiger model.

31129 Majestic Tiger has been available since 2021, and it’s one of the most realistic LEGO animals of all time. It has a flower on the model’s rear to represent a part of any creature not typically recreated in LEGO sets. After some mixed reactions in the years since, flowers are back in a LEGO tiger set, but in a less anatomically accurate position.

Whether it’s intentional from the designer or not, pairing a tiger of all animals with flowers, especially a pink one, intrinsically links the new tiger model to the most notable part of 31129 Majestic Tiger. It’s entirely plausible that this is an intentional, tongue-in-cheek reference to the rear of 31129 Majestic Tiger from the design team.

Only time will tell whether this is an Easter egg or one of the most notable coincidences in LEGO history. 31217 The Fauna Collection – Tiger will hopefully be added to the official online store soon to provide the full suite of details for the set. 31129 Majestic Tiger is available now.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
