In that blend between what you would expect and what you would hope of the LEGO Group in producing a microscale version of 10267 Gingerbread House (review), 40337 Gingerbread House just about delivers everything.
All the charm and fun of 10267 Gingerbread House is perfectly captured at this smaller scale, wonderfully translated through clever piece selection and that same colour scheme throughout. Where the larger 10267 offers an interactive exploration into a sweet-inspired home, 40337 produces a delightful mini model ideal for Christmas display.
Surprisingly for a microscale set, 40337 weighs in with a hefty piece count of 481, which allows for a very fun and intriguing build experience, a solid final model and of course a very effective little display set at the end of it all. Microscale isn’t to everyone’s liking, but there’s enough interest in what you are putting together to keep you going, and more than enough detail and colour here captured across three bags of pieces and two instruction booklets.
The final model is an adorable miniature version of its bigger brother, complete across the front with all the same characteristics and details that make that larger set such a unique and sweet twist on a classic fairy tale. The reverse side to the set is not like the larger model, having been designed instead as a flat, closed off back. For what is primarily a display piece, this ensures there’s only one way you’ll present it, and it at least makes dusting easier…
There’s a lot to like about 40337 Gingerbread House, and as a small display model, either as a version of 10267 Gingerbread House or as its own thing, this is a set that adds quality and character to any Christmas display. It is available from today, through to the end of December, at official LEGO stores and via the official LEGO website, free with qualifying purchases of £100 / $100 / €100.
