LEGO 40638 Heart Ornament price and release date confirmed

LEGO 40638 Heart Ornament is now listed on the official online store, confirming its price and release date – and revealing it’s fully customisable.

This year’s first Valentine’s Day set is also being marketed as perfect for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, making it that rare cross-purpose seasonal product. With 254 pieces in the box, 40638 Heart Ornament will retail for £10.99 / $12.99 / €12.99 when it launches on January 1, 2023, and comprises a buildable heart-shaped ornament (the clue’s in the name, we guess).

Constructed from red and white plates and hinges, the heart has a specific base shape, but how you decorate it beyond that is entirely up to you. The set is packed with floral elements in various shades of pink and green, and while the instructions include two different designs for inspiration, the model encourages builders to go beyond and come up with their own patterns for the heart.

The final build measures over 19cm high and 20cm wide, and is pretty solid value from a price-per-piece perspective (however fallible that is as a metric). 40638 Heart Ornament joins a growing list of LEGO.com and LEGO Store-exclusive sets launching in 2023, including 40644 Piñata and 40646 Daffodils.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
