LEGO 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut GWP review
Blasting on to shelves today comes LEGO 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut, the most adorable gift-with-purchase ever.
Over the past few years, the LEGO Group has indulged its fans’ love for nostalgia by reimagining classic characters in delightfully larger-than-life formats. From the oversized buildable 40649 Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure to the stunning 40504 A Minifigure Tribute (an upscaled version of the iconic Captain Redbeard), we’ve seen the LEGO Group lean into the idea of making its smallest stars into a shelf-dominating display piece.
It’s a trend that merges novelty with a deep reverence for the brand’s roots, and 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut feels like the next logical step in that evolution. Available from May 15 to 23 with all orders above £135 / $150 / €150, 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut is poised to be one of the most sought-after exclusives in recent memory, and rightly so.
One glance at the box and it’s hard not to be smitten by this chubby-cheeked, wide-eyed tribute to LEGO Classic Space. Fans of BrickHeadz will feel immediately at home with the building style, but this is more than just a baby version of those buildable statuettes.

With 250 pieces spread across four numbered bags, 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut breaks down into three main components: the body, the jetpack, and that adorable head. A central studded core anchors each section, with clever sub-assemblies forming the limbs, helmet and pack. The proportions and shaping, especially around the feet and arms, are particularly well done – pushing the build slightly beyond typical BrickHeadz territory into something with real display charm.
Printed elements help elevate the model, including the Classic Space logo beaming brightly on the chest, and a pair of face tiles that bring that unmistakable LEGO baby spacefarer to life. While there are no brand new parts here (aside from those exclusive prints), the build does offer a tidy mix of simple pleasure and clever part usage that fans will appreciate.

But as dazzling as this chubby cosmic cutie is, the LEGO Group has missed a golden opportunity and one that many of us were quietly hoping would materialise: a minifigure-scale red baby astronaut. We’ve yet to see the baby astronaut piece in red, making this GWP the perfect excuse to finally plug that gap. Some of us were even speculating that the helmet might be hollow, allowing a tiny red spacebaby to sit inside – but Houston, we have a problem, as it was not to be.
It’s a baffling omission that leaves a faint, hollow echo in what could have been a perfect package. A single tiny red baby astronaut would have blasted 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut into orbit.
Now let’s address the Saturn-sized elephant in the room: this isn’t a set you can just buy. You’ll need to spend £135 / $150 / €150 to see it added to your basket as a bonus gift-with-purchase. That’s fine for adult fans eyeing big May releases, but it does mean younger builders or budget-conscious collectors may miss out unless they turn to the aftermarket. And we all know how astronomical those prices can get once GWPs sell out…
It’s a shame, because this is one of those quintessential LEGO builds that feels like joy encapsulated; the kind of set that makes you smile from the moment you open the box to the second you clip on the final plate. Whether perched proudly on a shelf or peeking out from your desk, it radiates charm and character. It deserves a wider release, or at the very least, to be reissued with that elusive red baby astronaut in tow.
40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut is available with all orders above £135 / $150 / €150 from LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores from May 15 to 23 (or while stocks last).
