LEGO Sonic 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller is the best GWP of 2025

LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog may have just produced the best LEGO gift-with-purchase of 2025 with 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller.

Available at LEGO.com and LEGO Stores from September 8 through to September 18, while stocks last and excluding pre-orders, LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller is being given away with all LEGO purchases of £115 / $130 / €130 or more.

For that spend, which is across the entire LEGO catalogue of products at LEGO.com, excluding pre-orders, you receive an almost 1:1 LEGO replica of the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive controller. On the reverse of the controller is a mini build of a screenshot from Sonic the Hedgehog, whilst a stand on which to place the controller pivots to allow you to show either side as you wish.

The console this controller is from was named the Genesis in the US market and the Mega Drive in the UK and Japan, and the controller for each region reflected that difference and came in a slightly different colourway. 40769 very pleasingly recognises this by not only including the stickers for each of the three versions of the controller, but also the extra parts to sticker too, so you don’t need to choose which version to go with – you can sticker all the pieces and swap them around as and when you want to.

The screenshot build from Sonic the Hedgehog works so well because, amongst a quite intuitive build, it contains a clear, printed 1×1 rounded tile with Sonic mid-spin – the design and placement of this works so well that it takes you right back to playing the game itself.

There is a lot of love and care that has gone into the design of 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller, in a way that rewards video game fans and LEGO fans with an intelligent and very satisfying model. For LEGO Sonic and video game fans this is a must have and represents fair value at the spend threshold, whilst for anyone else who happens to pick it up anyway you won’t be disappointed by the novelty of the LEGO experience either.

LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller is available September 8 to 17, free with all LEGO.com and LEGO Store purchases of £115 / $130 / €130 or more, while stocks last and excluding pre-orders.

(Yes, I messed up the stickers – pro tip: follow the instructions carefully. Place the button pieces on the controller first, then apply each sticker.)
