Retiring LEGO 71040 The Disney Castle sells out online

It’s been available for more than six years, but it looks like time is finally running out for 71040 The Disney Castle, which is now temporarily out of stock at LEGO.com.

Officially confirmed to be retiring this year, the 4,080-piece set has long since sold out in the US online. But it was still available to order in the UK and Europe – until today, as it’s now listed as ‘temporarily out of stock’. That typically means a set isn’t gone for good just yet, and will return at some point (as we’ve seen with 10294 Titanic, 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine and so on).

Given we’re so late into the shelf life of 71040 The Disney Castle, though, it’s hard to say whether it ever really will be available again – or if it will just transition to completely sold out in the next few days. If you do see it back in stock, it’s likely to be your very last chance to snag it before it really is gone for good (with the retirement window rapidly approaching, it’s presumably already left production).

If 71040 The Disney Castle – which includes exclusive variants of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck, along with Donald Duck and an exclusive Tinkerbell minifigure – comes back in stock between December 9 and 13, you’ll also be able to snag double VIP points on it at LEGO.com. Keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for updates on its availability across the weekend.

For now, 71040 The Disney Castle exits Brick Fanatics’ Top 20 LEGO Sets List (which tracks the best sets currently available to order) for the first time since August 2021. Whether it will ever return is difficult to say…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
