LEGO 71051 Series 28 Animals frog bodies make good hands

A custom figure making use of one character from LEGO 71051 Series 28 Animals proves that bodies can be decent hands in the right context.

We’re a couple of weeks following the release of 71051 Series 28 Animals, and enthusiasts online are starting to explore the potential of the new parts and prints in the animal-centric series. That includes Tee_Baum_Bricks over on Rebrickable, who has released instructions for their Hopscotch, Earl of Toadsworth figure after requests from followers on Instagram.

The 276-piece figure and display base makes use of two 71051 Series 28 Animals frog minifigures as well as a swathe of additional elements to create an intimidating, yet friendly character. The instructions and parts list are currently available for free, but sourcing the parts may be challenging due to some rare recolours.

Either way, the figure itself showcases the potential of the pieces in 71051 Series 28 Animals. Using the frog costume torso and legs as hands is especially innovative, with each of the limbs then acting as fingers. The approach ensures more posing options for individual digits, but it still looks slightly unsettling while being convincing.

Finding two of the naturally-coloured torsos and legs is affordable thanks to each 71051 Series 28 Animals being £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.99 for one full minifigure. They’ll still be blind-boxed, but you can overcome this obstacle with the Brick Search app’s minifigure scanner.

Everyone gets 12 uses of the scanner for free, which may be enough for finding two frog costume minifigures, or a month of unlimited access will only cost £2.49 / $3.49. That’s less than the cost of an extra minifigure, and we’ve prepared a guide to using the scanner here.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
