LEGO Star Wars 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship revealed

The LEGO Group has revealed the long-awaited LEGO Star Wars 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship, which marks the first minifigure-scale LEGO Republic Gunship in a decade.

The 1,083 piece set is due to release on September 1 for $139.99 in the US. It’s the first time we’ve seen the Low-Altitude Aerial Transport (LAAT) at minifigure scale since 2013’s 75021 Republic Gunship, and the first-ever LEGO rendition of the vehicle in this colour scheme. The set is seemingly inspired by Clone Wars Season 6 episode Crisis at the Heart, which features the mostly-red gunship, Commander Fox and Padmé Amidala.

The minifigure line-up in 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship is subsequently spearheaded by Padmé Amidala (albeit in a different outfit to the one she was wearing that episode), and also includes a brand new Phase II Commander Fox, two Coruscant Guard Clone Troopers and Chancellor Palpatine. It’s a solid cast of characters for LEGO Star Wars collectors, not least because every single minifigure features a new design.

This is otherwise closer in style to 2008’s 7676 Republic Gunship than the 2013 set, given it omits the side bubble turrets in favour of fully-closing bay doors. Other features include a built-in handle for lifting the model, an opening rear door – which has paved the way for a speeder bike in previous LEGO Republic Gunships, but no such luck here – and rotating front cannons.

It looks like a slightly smaller Gunship than previous sets, too, but perhaps not by much. We’ll know for sure once we have our hands on the set next month. Look out for confirmation of 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship’s international pricing once it’s live on LEGO.com in more regions.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
