LEGO Marvel 76217 I am Groot is a great parts pack

76217 I am Groot – a particularly charming LEGO Marvel release – is surprisingly useful when it comes to LEGO car design.

While the LEGO Marvel theme is doing rather well at the moment, some LEGO sets in the theme naturally stand out from the crowd. One example of this idea is 76217 I am Groot, a large-scale recreation of tree-person Groot in his younger days. While it’s designed as a standalone model, it’s proven surprisingly compatible with other LEGO sets – with 10298 Vespa 125 and 76210 Hulkbuster able to accommodate the character.

It also appears that Groot’s constituent parts offer exciting new building opportunities. Reddit user IBrickedItUp has recently shared their latest creation – a Volvo 240 estate built from LEGO elements.

It’s an impressive model on its own merits, able to accommodate at least two LEGO minifigures in its front seats. Crucially, it has a completely uniform colour scheme – thanks, at least in part, to the variety of dark tan elements that 76217 I am Groot contains.

Naturally, you can’t build a LEGO Volvo entirely out of Groot – although 76217 I am Groot does include a couple of tyres in its parts list. A key obstacle is the lack of mudguards; only one is included with the LEGO Groot, and you’ll need four to build a model in the same vein as IBrickedItUp’s model.

However, it does reinforce the fact that new LEGO releases can benefit everyone – even if you don’t end up buying the LEGO sets themselves. If you’re interested in Groot’s component elements, you can look for them on BrickLink. The pieces may also show up in LEGO.com’s Pick a Brick service, although access to this is constrained until January – and it appears some elements aren’t available through this channel at the moment.
