LEGO 76300 Arkham Asylum teases a long-awaited minifigure

The upcoming LEGO 76300 Arkham Asylum includes many returning and new characters, but one is teased that we’ve been waiting a long time for.

The latest big LEGO Batman build to be revealed offers the most detailed and modular depiction of Arkham Asylum to date. Of the 65 stickers in the set, which the LEGO Group takes pride in, a computer in 76300 Arkham Asylum features a familiar face. It’s not one that we’ve ever seen as a physical minifigure, though.

That face is made up of clay, depicting Clayface as a previous or current patient of Arkham Asylum. Unfortunately, this is the only place where he can be found in 76300 Arkham Asylum, which instead features other DC villains as minifigures.

Clayface’s minifigure design in the sticker is undoubtedly a reference to his first LEGO appearance as a digital minifigure in the first Batman video game, and he has since been adapted in the LEGO DC Super Villains game as both a minifigure and a bigfig. His physical cameos have been much different to any of these.

Clayface has been included in previous LEGO DC sets, but he has only ever been depicted as a brick-built figure. This is despite his ability to shrink and grow his form at will, but these larger forms still work as a depiction of Clayface. It’s just a shame that we still haven’t got a minifigure of him. Clayface’s head shape wouldn’t even need a new piece, provided the community can accept a design slightly different to his original LEGO game appearance and that of the sticker.

The gooey head element, which debuted in LEGO VIDIYO and was most recently used for the Z-Blob wrestler minifigure, is perfect for a Clayface minifigure. However, it’s not the same as his original game design. The fact that it is still in production and fits so well may increase its chances of being eventually used for a Clayface minifigure.

Back in 2021, Ashflash created a custom concept for a Clayface minifigure using this element, and there’s no doubt that the piece works excellently for the character.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the LEGO Group has teased part of a future set through a sticker, most recently through a map design in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell and even with another sticker in a LEGO Marvel set that teased a character’s minifigure three years before its debut.

That’s not to say that a Clayface minifigure is guaranteed, but the presence of a sticker does at least suggest that such a possibility is on the table, and the fact that he’s a Batman villain may increase its chances since the theme is currently focusing on just Batman characters.

That’s not to say that LEGO DC will only be about Batman in the future, though, with another sticker in 76300 Arkham Asylum potentially teasing a set based outside of Gotham. This is only speculation, and in the meantime,e 76300 Arkham Asylum launches September 9 and is available to pre-order now.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
