LEGO Speed Champions 77239 Porsche 911 GT3 RS review
Read how LEGO Speed Champions 77239 Porsche 911 GT3 RS performs, from the iconic spoiler to the striking hood vents.
77239 Porsche 911 GT3 RS uses 348 pieces to miniaturise a race-ready 911, Porsche’s most popular model among fans of the car brand and beyond. Equipped with a spoiler and racing bodywork, complete with vents in the hood, the real-life car can reach speeds of 184mph – but how does the LEGO Speed Champions version shake down when the heat is on?

At first glance, 77239 Porsche 911 GT3 RS looks to be ticking a lot of boxes: a punchy silhouette, a boxy front, and a mighty spoiler that sends it flying around a race track. Everything about the real-life car has been designed to translate the 911 curves into a racing vehicle, and that attention has also been devoted to the LEGO Speed Champions version.
Sloped elements on the hood keep that classic 911 look, giving way to a heavier back end, laden with tapered elements to mimic the low rear bumper. Arguably, the rear end is a tad too heavy – the spoiler looks like it wouldn’t just generate downforce but push the entire rear end into the ground. It’s dramatically oversized when comapred to the real thing.

That’s not the most egregious flaw in the brick-built car, however. 77239 Porsche 911 GT3 RS packs an impressive amount of detail on to the rear end, with a strip of red plates for the rear lights and stickered livery details down the side panels. While 2D details through printing and stickers are part and parcel of most LEGO Speed Champions cars, we’ve seen some impressive brickwork on other features of this car, proving what can be achieved even at this scale.
On the front end though, the printed headlights feel like one step too far. The placement is too far back, angled so that they would shine straight up into the sky, rather than forward on the track.

The look also ends up feeling flat and 2D, where some clever building techniques would have helped them feel a bit more tangible. The hood vents are also very sharply indented. Where other areas are smoothly carved out, leaning into the aerodynamics of the real car, the vents look like two bricks have simply been taken out, leaving little of the same Porsche aesthetic behind.
All in all, although the basic shape of the car features some smart building, the details – especially towards the front – are severely lacking. The headlights are often the personality of a car and the goofiness of them here cheapens the look of 77239 Porsche 911 GT3 RS to an unrecoverable degree.
Our honest opinion: 77239 Porsche 911 GT3 RS lets down an iconic car with a clunky design and cheapened details.
