LEGO Arkham Asylum’s best unseen references are in the bin
Early reviews of LEGO 76300 Arkham Asylum are starting to drop online, revealing the DC modular building’s best unseen references – and they’re all in the bin.
Like previous superhero modular buildings, the upcoming 76300 Arkham Asylum features a yellow dumpster around the back. 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum’s is filled with Infinity Stones, 76178 Daily Bugle’s contains rotten food, and 76300 Arkham Asylum’s houses a couple of golden references to Batman past, present and future.
As revealed by brickmasterharri on TikTok, the first thing you’ll find when peeking into Arkham’s dumpster (like a regular trash panda) is a stickered tile recreating the cover of Batman #9, originally published on December 6, 1941. Batman and Robin are framed by the light of a torch, depicted here as regular LEGO minifigures. Both characters are included in the set, albeit not in these outfits.

Nestled below that tile are a handful of 1×1 round plates in four colours: gold, silver, blue and purple. If you’ve played a single LEGO video game since 2005, chances are you know those are referencing the currency used in TT Games’ titles, and which is returning in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Silver are worth 10 studs, gold are worth 100, blue will net you 1,000 and the rarer purple elements are worth 10,000 studs.
Whether these are an intentional nod to the 2026 title is less certain given Batman already has three LEGO video games under his belt (and his Rogues’ Gallery have their own, too), so the designers could easily have had those in mind instead. But the timing of this release, only weeks after Legacy of the Dark Knight was announced, paints it as a neat – if coincidental – connection to the future of LEGO Batman.
It’s also nice to see a reference created entirely through regular LEGO elements, as the majority of them are instead incorporated through the set’s extensive sticker sheet. And while early previews of 76300 Arkham Asylum – from the official press release to a first look in-hand at San Diego Comic-Con – have shown off most of those graphics, it seems the set still has a few surprises in store this September.
76300 Arkham Asylum debuts on September 9 for £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 and is available to pre-order now.
