LEGO Atari 2600 console model rumoured for later in 2022

A new LEGO rumour has surfaced, suggesting that the second brick-built console could be on the way, but not in partnership with Nintendo.

Promobricks, who have previously been proven to be reliable with 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine, are reporting that a new set with the likely number of 10306 is coming later this year, depicting an Atari 2600 console in a similar fashion to 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System.

The source describes this rumoured model as playable, with a slot for a cartridge reported on top of the brick-built console. 10306 Atari 50th Anniversary Gaming Console is also rumoured to include a hinge with a recreation of the Pitfall! video game and be life-sized.

The report suggests that this could cost €169.99 / $199.99 for release in August 2022. It’s also said that the brick-built console and a CX40 joystick could control the action on the scene.

Atari will celebrate its 50th anniversary on June 27, 2022. Whether that would make a partnership with the LEGO Group this year more likely is up for debate. As always, this rumour has not been officially confirmed by the LEGO Group and should be taken with caution.

As mentioned earlier, the LEGO Group is familiar with console recreations thanks to LEGO Super Mario, though this report suggests that the models can expand beyond Nintendo. This fan model from 2020 might give you an idea of what to expect, provided this rumour is accurate.
