LEGO Avatar fixed a long-standing minifigure accessibility problem
A new element in a 2022 LEGO Avatar set has fixed a long-standing oversight for LEGO wheelchairs.
Speaking to LEGO YouTuber DuckBricks in an interview, LEGO Avatar designers confirmed that 75573 Floating Mountains: Site 26 & RDA Samson sees a new wheelchair element that fixes a minifigure accessibility issue.
“They made a modification to the wheelchair to allow it to actually go through doors,” reported DuckBricks. “That was something that you couldn’t do with the older wheelchair, which felt like a big miss, that you can’t wheel them through the standard LEGO door frame.”
The YouTuber goes on to say that this modified wheelchair is now the standard wheelchair being used moving forward, as also seen in 60389 Custom Car Garage, released at the beginning of 2023. With the LEGO Group’s recent push to explore disability more concretely in the LEGO Friends theme, making wheelchairs that work just like ones in real life is a vital step of making LEGO sets that represent disability accurately.
