LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight previews – 10 things we spotted
Recent hands-on previews of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight have revealed plenty of new details to spot in the upcoming video game.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be swooping into view this month, arriving in both Standard and Deluxe Editions for players to choose between, depending on how much they want to spend. Ahead of the title’s imminent launch, TT Games and Warner Bros. Games recently held hands-on preview events for the game (with Brick Fanatics in attendance), giving media the chance to discover what other secrets players can expect to discover.
With that in mind, here are 10 all-new nuggets of information that have been revealed in the LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight previews, no doubt with plenty more to be found come launch day.
1 – Title screen options

As the game progresses, players will notice that the main title screen changes appearance, depending on the specific suit your primary character is currently wearing. In addition, the screen is also the place to redeem special codes, such as those included in four recently-released LEGO Batman sets.
2 – Red Bricks

The good news for longtime TT Games fans is that bonus Red Bricks are back in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, this time with a twist. Once acquired and unlocked, players will be able to use them to change the colours of every suit and vehicle, with Artist, Feline, Filthy Rich, Ninja, Nautical, Gothic, Flower Power, Power Plant, Festive and GCPD options spotted so far.
3 – New suits

There are at least 100 unlockable suits in the game, with even more in the Deluxe Edition and future DLC. New costumes seen in the preview builds of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight include Skeleton Gordon, Nine Lives Catwoman, Batman ’66 Robin and many more to collect.
4 – Safecracking

Each character in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has their own unique abilities, allowing them to solve certain puzzles or complete specific areas of the game. For instance, Catwoman is able to use her unique talents to crack safes, gaining access to hidden items such as collectible minikits.
5 – Pause screen

Pausing the game at any point during play brings up a screen with some very interesting options. Those include Tutorials & Hints, Photo Mode, Speech Text Log and changeable difficulty settings, as well as revealing that the game contains at least 23 Red Bricks, 30 Gold Bricks (or Skill Bricks), 170 Trophies, 121 Toys, 200 WayneTech Caches, 30 Vehicles and 100 Suits.
6 – Mission Summary

More handy information is displayed at the end of each level, which sums up how well players have performed in a story mission and what their rewards are. For instance, complete ‘Carmine Falcone’ and you’ll receive a gold Skill Brick, plus new suits for both Batman and Jim Gordon.
7 – Bat wardrobe

As your suit collection expands, new outfits will be available to view in the Batcave. Those include at least 35 costumes for Batman, 12 for Robin, 11 for Batgirl, Jim Gordon and Catwoman, plus 10 for Nightwing and Talia al Ghul. In addition to the main storage section of the Batcave, there’s a secret bonus area with more room, potentially for additional DLC suits.
8 – Batcave expansion

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight features its own Batcave for players to store suits, vehicles, trophies and more, a location that can also be expanded as the game progresses. However, new sections require the use of specialised excavator machines, each of which costs a certain number of precious studs to unlock.
9 – Interview tapes

Fans of Rocksteady Studios’ Arkham games should feel right at home with LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. As well as the previous series inspiring the combat and stealth in TT Games’ title, players can also pick up hidden interview tapes that feature tongue-in-cheek voice messages to replay.
10 – Batcave Bat-Mite store

While we already knew about multiple Bat-Mite stores scattered through the game’s open world Gotham City, it turns out there’s also one to be found within the Batcave itself. Inside will be a selection of handy items to purchase with studs, from suits to props and beyond, if you can afford them that is.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 22. Those who opt to purchase the Deluxe Edition will be able to gain early access to the game a full three days earlier on May 19.
